Color Fever

I am no stranger to funky colored hair. I was purple for a second then I was green for a while, then purple again while I was away over the Summer. Safe to say I had become accustomed to seeing myself extra colorfully.
Once I got home from traveling though, I started spending more time out in the sun and surf and there is only so much abuse my hair can handle. So for a while I took a break from the bleach, had a little trim and treated my burnt ends with some extra TLC.
Well...now it's September and I'm officially over my hair color hiatus.

Crystal All the Things

I have been majorly jewelry obsessing over here this Summer. Ever since I started shopping to go on vacation I've been preoccupied with updating my wardrobe and investing in some nicer pieces to add to the line up.

No while the clothing arena is a little slow going right nowI've definitely developed a definitive preference when it comes to my personal decoration.

All the crystals and ALL the good vibes.

The Homewear Wishlist:1

I have done a seemingly endless amount of wishlist posts on the blog before and almost all of them centered around clothes or beauty so this time I thought I'd switch things up and talk a little home inspiration with you guys.

After my 3 week vacation and some rather thought provoking AirBnB stays I've been newly inspired to up the anti in my own space once again.

Ever since I moved into my current apartment I have been slowly getting rid of all of the "temporary" and left over collegiate furnishings in favor of some slightly more sturdy adult options.
In addition I've been going a step above just blue tacking a few posters to my walls and hoping for the best.
...So with some careful Amazon-ing and some skillful souvenir shopping I've gotten some new ideas for my spaces.

DIY Yourself into a Golden Girl

Remember a couple weeks ago when I mentioned how much I missed making things.

Well I've started to again and it feels SO. GOOD.

I posted this picture on Instagram last week and I thought today I'd walk you through how I made my new Golden Girls-esque circle shroud.

At least that's what I'm calling it.

I Miss Making

You may have noticed a bit of radio silence over here on my corner of the internet.
I took a week off to enjoy a family wedding and give myself a bit of a break and then that week turned into something of a creative crisis.

I am someone who has been making things for many years. From studying fashion design to some ill advised Mod Podge I've run the DIY gamut.

Now I am very fortunate to be in a position to live in a place I love, that inspires me, motivates me and, gives me access to all the resources necessary to turn that motivation and inspiration into something tangible.

The only problem is I wasn't doing that.

Crazy Hair for the Commitment Phobe

I touched on this briefly when I talked about dying my hair purple a few months back but, I am notoriously opposed to doing anything drastic to my hair. I have a particular aversion to getting it cut but in general it takes me a very, very long time to get on board with hair change.
A million years ago I was using henna and was a quite content redhead for a while and since then I've briefly dabbled in an ombre attempt and a light tint of purple...
...but like anyone the urge to leap into something new struck at a moment of self reflection and change. First the purple happened and now I've just been on this excited roll of picking new colors and playing with the look.**
I've learned some things along the way and after three months of playing with it thought it might be time to share.

Hair Routine Part Deux! Fine, Curly and, Bleached|TheUnanimosMolly

I posted a video talking all about my hair routine almost 2 years ago now on my YouTube channel.
To date it is one of my most viewed videos so I thought since there was so much interest I would film a follow up.
A little about my hair:
It's fine, it curls very very tightly and it's prone to both frizz and fallout. Cute huh?
On top of that I decided about 2 and half months ago to bleach the bottom four or so inches so I could pop in some fun colors. Now what was tricky to begin with needs even more TLC. Since I've finally found a new routine that works for all my hair's new quirks I thought a rundown was in order.

The video is a long one but packed with a lot of info so if you are interested take a peek behind the cut!

Gifts Guide|Secret Santa

I love a good Secret Santa.
Whether it's in the family or in the office it's a nice way to a gift that is thoughtful, useful and makes the recipient feel special.
There are some beauty, accesory and home choices and while they are primarily geared toward women there are a couple of things in here I think a man might love.

Ed Note: DIY Brow Grooming

I have been a long time advocate of do it yourself eyebrow grooming.
I know every time I say this I can see the shock on people's faces.
What?!
Do them yourself?
Yes.
Do them yourself.

With a few simple tools, about twenty minutes and a good magnifying mirror your brows will be back with no appointment and no botched jobs.

Try This! Nourishing Nailpolish Remover

I had been meaning to try this nail polish remover trick for a long time now. I have been pretty loyal to my Beauty Secrets Acetone (not pure acetone) remover for nearly 4 years. It's easily located at a Sally's Beauty Supply but that is like the one thing that is impossible to find in New York City.

So today we're doing an at home version of Zoya's Remove+. I used the ratio wonderfully deduced by the absolutely brilliant Michelle at Lab Muffin. If you ever wanted to know why or how your products work puhhhlease go read her blog. So informative and so smart.

The real key here is a mixture of straight acetone, water and glycerine and Oh.My.God. does this stuff work miracles.

It has all the remove-ability of pure acetone but leaves my cuticles feeling insanely soft and hydrated.
For a grand total of 7$ up front this is one beauty DIY worth trying sooner rather than later.

The Dresser Skincare Cut

I thought it might be fun to have a little snoop around another recently redecorated portion of my life space. I don't know if the idea of room or apartment tours are all that appealing to me but I like sharing decorations and organizations and the like.

As such...I have started keeping a lot of my skin care bits, apart from masks and cleansers, out in my room on my dresser because I remember to use them when they are right in front of me. I also think they look lovely and feminine when they are on display.

There are a lot of pictures up ahead.
You have been warned.

Jewelery Collection, Storage and, Organization

Last weekend I got the sudden urge to purge. This happens every once and a while when I realize that I'm not wearing or using or reaching for things and I just try to pass them along.
I am a New Yorker, space is expensive.

So I picked the dressers. I went through and got rid of everything that was worn through and threw it out and anything that was in good enough shape gets donated or passed along to friends. The fun part though ended up being the jewelery. It was long overdue for some attention and with overflowing glass candy bowls and odd earrings on every surface of my apartment I thought a new storage set up was in order.

I got a few nice bargain pieces from Marshalls, an old display piece from Urban Outfitters, a metal storage box from Target's holiday collaboration last year and an empty diptyque candle jar and I was in business.

If you want to take a peek at how I put things together have a peek behind the cut!
