Adventures in Contour

For a few years now I have been meaning to pick up the Illamsqua Cream Pigment in Hollow. Touted as an amazing natural contour color for the fairer skinned amongst us.

After hemming and hawing for an eternity I decided about 6 months ago I was going to get it. Just in time for Sephora to stop carrying the line. (Why Sephora? Da Fuck?) Luckily Bloomingdales still happily stocks their products so to the Upper East Side I went.

The Prefect Blend

Apologies for the brief bloggity hiatus but I had a rather eventful weekend. If you've never been to the Coney Island Mermaid Parade I HIGHLY recommend it. It is a veritable New York freak show free for all and some of the most fun I've had for free in a long time.

It is also some of the most exhausted I've been in quite a long time so my normal Sunday routine went a little wonky (read: nap-tastic)

Boobies and boys in dresses aside I did manage to have a foundation revelation this weekend and it goes a little something like this.

Eye Cream Confessions

I have a confession to make. I haven't actually purchased and eye cream in over a year. Like most skin care aficionados I use my eye creams every single night but, I'm not really so sure they actually DO anything.

Let me explain.

I don't notice a difference when they are there vs. when they are absent and as a result I have a really hard time spending money on them. So my policy, and it has worked well for a while is to just aim for samples of them.

Let me further explain...

Tools of the Trade

Eyelashes are arguably one of the most impactful features we apply makeup on everyday IMHO... I have days where I go out without a stitch on my face, lips wherever but when I skip mascara I really feel different.

Is this weird?

I'm not sure but I'm inclined to believe I am not alone.

So after months of suffering through lackluster curlers and mediocre mascara I've found a combo I can't get enough of.

Bottled Glow

One of my favorite little tricks for faking a tan in the summer comes in the form of nail polish. This concept is not a forgien one to the beauty world, in fact, Model's Own just brought out a whole range based around this very concept.

But....since those are all the way across the ocean I figured I would pick out a few of my Stateside faves to get everyone in the summer groove!

Minty Fresh

I am having a serious mint moment this Summer. As an ingredient that is.
Specifically body care but I am also really loving it  in my skincare.

Now we all love a good mint nail polish but, I think it does a better job in essential oil form.

It is so refreshing and cooling, which this time of year is welcome in every way shape and form.

As an added perk it is amazing for your circulation.

It's Just Makeup!

I have been DYING to try this product. Not only has it been hyped to hell but the name (and price tag) just seems to claim so much perfection that it's impossible not to be a little curious.

Now that I have FINALLY tried the Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer I have some thoughts...

The Repurchase | Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder-Dim Light

I initially bought the then limited edition and now permenant Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette around the holidays and it took me less than six months to use up Dim Light completely. Completely.

I'm Talking About B.O. Again

Oh the great deodorant debate. I have hemmed and hawed and tried and failed with the natural deodorant bandwagon a lot this year. The quest if by no means over but, I wanted to see how an easily accessible drugstore find stacks up against the competition. So when put to a simple work day test how did the Tom's of Maine Long Lasting deodorant in refreshing Lemongrass work?

Look Alive Ladies

Week before last I made mention of the power of one simple swipe of lip color. Today I want to talk about all of the OTHER shades I reach for when I am late/lazy/hungover.

I think that lippie is one of the most effective ways to perk up your look. It gives such a bold convincing impression of effort that almost no amount of eye makeup could ever convey. Apart from Sephora's Cream Lip Stain in Strawberry Kissed I have a whole list of go to lip shades for any morning makeup emergencies.

My Cart (1)

Oh the wish list post. Do you know any woman that doesn't keep a wish list? I don't. :)

Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm: For the first time maybe ever there is something on my list I actually need.  A replacement if you will. With my Body Shop Chamomile Cleansing Butter on its last legs I think it's high time to upgrade.

Everything else I'm lemming...after the jump.

The Beaute Liqui-Gel Stain in Flouron: So I ordered this from Urban Outfitters during their beauty event which ended on June 1st. The absolutely asinine shipping debacle that ensued was legendary but, long story short, this will not be arriving in the replacement order Urban is sending because it is now out of stock. Lame. I am sooooo excited to try though and I will be hunting this down in NYC this weekend. I just will be.

Ah the ASOS. There is nothing more satisfying to peruse than the many many pages of options on ASOS.

My first pick is this two tone Bar Necklace. I love the silver and gold together, the slight curve and the dainty but not so dainty size. I'm having a bit of a revelation about accessories at the moment and seem to be gravitating towards simpler things. Not necessarily smaller things just more streamlined.

These Soft Shorts in Elephant Print. I am head over heels for the tassels and slight hint of color in the print. So effing cute. I am concerned that this will not be the most flattering thing on my body but I love the idea so much I might just go for it anyway. I also love the idea of shorts that aren't denim and these seem to be a perfect fit. Work appropriate (well for me anyway) and the most adorable thing.

How about it? What's on your summer wishlist?

Complete the Set

Back in March I spoke about a shampoo I had picked up at a fancy imports pharmacy on NYC's Upper East Side called Pasteur Discount. Discount. No. French. Yes! All of your Bioderma and Homeoplasmine dreams come true right in New York.

What I went back for though, in true New Yorker fashion, was a little something Italian who's mate was sitting home in my shower, nearly finished.

Ladies and Gents meet Davines Melu Anti Breakage Lusterous Conditioner.

(Seriously? That'a a 6 word title for a hair conditioner.)

The Sample Chronicles #1

I love a good foundation/primer fad. Spray on makeup in a can, luminizers with no shimmer, bare skin, just skin, no makeup makeup. Tell me that you can make me look perfect without anyone knowing that I don't just look perfect and I will at least make an effort to test your claim.

I'm not a chump and, I am not made of money. When those to worlds collide you learn how to politely ask too rude for their own commission sales girls for a nice sized sample.

So first round of the Sample Chronicles goes to: Chanel Le Blanc de Chanel

Springtime Spritz

I have been eying up something from Herbivore Botanicals for months now. I caught sight of them the first time on Etsy and it was love at first click. They have that oh so now Nylon magazine minimalist marketing that I just can't resist in a brand. When I came across their Balance mist at the Urban Outfitters checkout I grabbed it without hesitation.

But how often does a pretty frosted glass bottle artfully placed at the Urban Outfitters checkout contain something that REALLY works?
