Lippy B*tch

Ah Fall lipsticks. Over the last week or so I have finally started busting out my best Autumn shades and formulas for the lips and I am loving it. I think it's an instant face game changer.

To keep this concise, because I could ramble on about this shit forever, I picked three formulas and a high end and a low end option for each.

Something for everyone and all that!

So from left to right...

Mattes: Arguably (not really) my favorite lipstick formula. The undisputed winner for me in this category right now is NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil . Here I have the shade Red Square which is a slightly muted tomato red color. The warmth and the drama really add to this for the cooler months and the shade feels weightless and wears like iron. On the budget end Rimmel's Kate Moss Matte Lipsticks are the way to go and they are less than $5 most places. The shade 107 is a beautiful blue toned, deep berry red. This is a little thicker feeling on the lips but is non drying and lasts beautifully.

Satins: The perennial fall classic is MAC's Rebel. This is a really versatile shade that can easily be worn as a bright fuchsia with a single pass but, build it up and this is the ultimate vampy rockstar plum shade. This is a classic and if you don't have it you kind of need it in your collection. The satin finish leaves a little sheen on the lips but wears really well and leaves a nice stain behind once it wears away. The budget satin option that I have been loving is Milani's Color Statement Lipstick in Uptown Mauve. This is not Mauve, it's a berry purple shade. The formula is not as hearty as MAC's but it is impressive nonetheless. The only drawback is the scent, its synthetic and lipsmacker-y and dissipates quickly but may make this one not for everyone.

Glossy: I am cheating here because I don't really wear lipgloss. It's messy, it's high maintenance, and needs constant reapplication. No, not for me. I'm all about the gloss stains. They give you the same thick, shiny and plump look of a traditional gloss for a time and then when the gloss effect fades they leave a nice strong color behind. The OG of this formula is the YSL Glossy Stain. My one and only is shade #6 Brun Glace; a really stunning, quasi 90's deep brown red. The best part about this is that the budget friendly alternative is a dead on dupe...and 1/3 the price. The L'Oreal Shine Stain Caresse has the same long wearing gel-coat gloss as the YSL.* This one is the shade 186 Berry Persistent which is like the purple toned sister of the YSL shade. I don't get into the mood for gloss too often but when I do there is really no other product that comes to mind.

Phew...Fall lips 101 in the books.
Don't worry I'm sure I'll be adding to the lineup before the season is over.

*YSL and L'Oreal are both owned by L'Oreal...along with a host of other brands.*
